My Grandmama will always be remem-bered as a gentle and graceful person with a shining smile. My memories of her all include that ready smile and wise words. The house in Santa Rosa I visited as a child was always so invit-ing, playing with Grandmama’s old toys and listening to Grandaddy play the piano.
One occasion Julia and I spent the night at that house without Mom and Dad. We had played out in the grass out front and the electrical towers seemed so tall to me. That night I kept dreaming about climbing them and getting zapped by the power lines. I woke up scared and Grandmama was so sweet to me, holding me and talking to me, tucking me back in bed. It had probably been a while since she had comforted a little girl in the next bed-room.
I was on the phone with Mom after she found out Grandmama needed sur-gery. Mom was telling me how she was fondly remembering visits with my family, and how she loved seeing those energetic boys. Then she re-called the time Julia and I spent a few nights at their house, and how much fun she had with us. It must have been a special time for us all, and I am glad for all the times I got to spend with my amazing Grandmama. I love you Grandmama.
